A good friend of mine was sharing with me a story about his shoes, and it literally shifted how I do certain things in my office.
He shared was experience working in the restaurant industry, where he would be walking for miles a day, and at the end of the day, his feet would be ache, which he attributed to walking for too long.
After a while, when he started to experience more pain and issues in his feet, he started to get plantar fasciitis, and even issues started to go into his knees.
He’d cling to his hip.
Then he started to experience pain and symptoms in his lower back, so they figured I’d better go do something about this.
Before he went in for his appointment, he was actually sharing the story and experience with some of his friends.
One of his friends, who was a runner, asked a question and said, “Well, what kind of shoes are you wearing? I mean, you’re walking for all these miles every day. Do you have proper support?”
Up until that point, he had no thought into the different types of shoes he was wearing because his mindset around his shoes was, “I’m not going to spend that much money on my shoes, because they’re going to get dirty at the end of the day, and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a pair of shoes that I’m not even going to be able to wear.”
Eventually, his friend was able to convince him to go down to the shoe store and get him an actual, good quality pair of shoes that gave him the support that he needs so he can make it throughout the day without all the aches and pains.
Because of that one question that his friend asked, within about a week of wearing the new shoes, the pain in his feet were gone, the pain in his hips were gone, and he no longer even had a trace of that lower back pain.
So what does this guy story have anything to do with how we switch things up in the office?
Well, one of the most important things that his friend did was ask him a question.
