Fibromyalgia- a REAL issue

Ok ok, we have all probably heard the name Fibromyalgia, but can we define what it is?  I mean fibromyalgia was this mythical creature that caused people to “complain” and these people had these “symptoms” all in their heads?! WRONG. Fibromyalgia is a real issue and it is affecting millions


But what is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is different than most because it doesn’t have a specific definition, it does however, have a general definition. It simply states, “ A person feels aches all over their body.” The symptoms are often portrayed as any muscle pain (burning, aching, tightness or even twitching), tender points throughout the body, extremely fatigue, an issue with remembering or concentrating (often is called fibro fog or brain fog), can’t sleep well, and having anxiety/depression.  This can be a really frustrating definition of symptoms because this sounds like anything and EVERYTHING. Lets not forget that there are even MORE symptoms. According to Wed-MD, the most common symptoms are pain/tender points, fatigue, sleep problems, mood disorders, morning stiffness, swelling/ tingling of hands and feet, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, problems peeing, menstrual cramps and restless leg syndrome. The symptoms go on and on and every person is different.

A lot of people struggling with Fibromyalgia deal with it privately… They have been to many doctors, appointments, and no definitive diagnosis. They start to feel their palms sweaty, high heart rate and hoping for a diagnosis… instead they are questioned, not believed and assumed it is all “mental”. That’s the most upsetting thing to me… millions of people in the world have been turned away and are thought to believe that these symptoms are in their head, they’re looking for attention or you just don’t want to work.  


 What can you do?

If it has been undiagnosed or if you are feeling any of these symptoms get a second opinion. It is really important to know that you aren’t alone and that it isn’t just “in your head.” Fibromyalgia is real. It affects your life and it can be truly draining. At this time, there is no cure, BUT there are ways to make your quality of life go up!

Many people struggling with fibromyalgia change diets, exercise, get counseling, go to physical and occupational therapists, but also go to chiropractors.  Chiropractic can help alleviate pain, help reduce symptoms, but most importantly, get your body and brain to communicate. According to, there was a decrease in pain for patients suffering from fibromyalgia over a 4-week period!  Chiropractic has become a common tool to help people suffering from fibromyalgia.  There is hope and there are more options to help alleviate discomfort and pain. More and more research is coming out about fibromyalgia and how we are closer to understanding the cause.
